Ski Boat Trailers
Ski and Wakeboard Boat Trailers Having a good ski boat trailer or wakeboard boat trailer is very important, especially if you are going to be pulling your boat a lot. Most used and new ski and wakeboard boats are going to come with a ski boat trailer or wakeboard boat trailer, but sometimes you can find a great deal on a boat that has no trailer. This puts you in a position where you need to go looking for boat trailers. In other cases, boat owners find that their current trailer is getting old, is rusting, or simply breaks causing them to require a new boat trailer. If you are in any of these scenarios, there are a few companies that we recommend. BoatMate Trailers - BoatMate Trailers manufactures a variety of quality marine boat trailers. As part of every day production, BoatMate Trailers manufactures trailers for inboard ski boats, I/O runabouts and bass boats. They supply products to some of the most prestigious OEM boat manufacturers in the United States including Malibu Ski Boats, Supra and Moomba Ski Boats, Infinity Ski Boats, Bryant Boats, Stroker bass boats as well as Allison Ultra Performance Boats. Prestige Trailers - At Prestige Trailers, Inc. they take tremendous pride in the knowledge that their name is synonymous with quality and great service. These attributes don't come from the name; they come from the common sense approach, user-friendly design and quality components. Prestige trailers are the best trailing (torsion axles) and easiest loading (six bunks), and require the least maintenance of any on the market. The choice for your boat's transport demands considerable thought prior to your boat purchase, but should be the least of your concerns in it's use. Eagle Trailers - Eagle Trailers offers you the very best in performance and appearance in marine trailers. Available in single, tandem, and tri-axle models, Eagle trailers have been built for craft measuring 15 to over 50 foot in length with weights up to 15 tons. Glide-on, glide off design makes loading and launching easier than ever before. With clear-coated chrome wheels, steel fender/step assemblies, aluminum diamond plate fender steps, a custom graphics package, and color-matched marine grade carpet on the bunks and pads, this trailer makes an impressive aesthetic statement. Options available include a spare tire mount, aluminum mag wheels, sleek fiberglass fenders and many more.

Boat Transport Because you are looking for a new wakeboard boat or ski boat, chances are it could be difficult to find one close to your area. Inboard boats just aren't as common as, say a Cobalt or Maxum. Boats like that are very common whereas the perfect ski boat or wakeboard boat can be harder to find. OnlyInboards.com Recommends uShip For the Best Rates Get a free quote here So, when you do find it, even if it's across the country, sometimes you just have to jump on it. This can lead to the need for a boat shipping or boat transport service. There are a few things you want to be sure about when selecting a boat shipping or boat transport service. Basics of boat shipping and boat transport Stow all loose gear and secure. Boats should not be shipped with fuel or water in tanks. If you are shipping a ski boat or wakeboard boat,, make sure ballast tanks are totally drained. Drain fuel and water tanks. Remove any drain plugs from the hull. There should not be any water in the bilge while it is being transported. During winter months, water should be drained from water systems, pumps, air conditioners, etc. Disconnect batteries and secure. Remove anchors from the deck. Canvas Covers/Shrink Wrap All canvas covers must be removed as they will tear or fly off during transit. Cradles/Trailers If your boat has its own cradle, inspect it carefully for loose bolts or weakness of any kind. External Accessories All electronics, radar, hailers, horns, antennas, propellers, flag masts, lights, anchor lights, etc., must be removed, packed securely and securely stored below. Windows/Windshields Cabin windows should be latched and taped from the outside. All windshields and/or Plexiglas that protrude over the flying bridge should be removed, packed with a cargo blanket and should be well secured below. Power Boats Remove all propellers, flag masts, lights, outriggers, antennas, etc. If your power boat is low enough to ship with the flying bridge on, remove all lights, wheels, masts and windshields that protrude over the bridge. All Plexiglas should be removed and packed below with a cargo blanket. If your power boat is not low enough to ship with the flying bridge on, you will have to have a cradle built for the bridge to be shipped in on the forward deck or cockpit area. Every point touching the deck or rails must be sufficiently padded. Remove all electronics and valuable items from the bridge, pack securely, and store below.
Learn moreMB Sports Official Sponsor of OnlyInboards
In 2007, we flew out to California to meet with Mike Brendel, owner of MB Sports, to take a tour of the factory and test out some of their top boats. Needless to say, we were so impressed by the trip that we agreed to make MB Sports the official sponsor of OnlyInboards.com What impressed us so much about the MBs? Let's start with Mike Brendel. After only a few hours of meeting with Mike, the MB vision was very clear... To make the absolute best wakeboard boat on the market in every aspect without skimping in any step of the construction. It wasn't to sell 10,000 boats a year and make x amount of profit. His goal is to make 300 or so of the finest wakeboarding machines in the industry every year and keep his customers 100% satisfied. The structure of MB Sports makes this simple for Mike. If there are any improvements that need to be made on any of his boats (which does happen on any boat), Mike fixes it. Period. No matter the cost, no matter how long it takes. One of his boats isn't putting out as big of surf wake as you'd want stock, Mike is instantly on the case fixing the design. And that is a big example, there are tons of other smaller innovations that MB brings to the table that you'd never know about because he simpily doesn't advertise them (which is crazy to me!). Mike doesn't have to deal with investors, stock holders etc to get his designs and modifications approved. He just does it! Construction - -Starting with the construction of the boats. Every single MB Sports wakeboard boat is hand built. The fiberglass is all hand laid and not sprayed. The techniques that MB uses to build their boats stem from Mike's history in boat racing where he built racing and speed boats for many years with his father. These boats had to withstand tremendous wear and tear and needed to be built extremely tough. Mike has brought these same principles in boat building to the wakeboard boat market with the MB Sports boat lineup. Their warranty is top in the business. We're talking a LIFETIME warranty on the hull, deck, exhaust, instruments, and anodized hardware. You also get a 5 year warranty on the composite swimstep, upholstry, carpet, (yes 5 YEARS on upholstry and carpet!!!) and blister free. 3 year warranty on the gelcoat and engine/drivetrain. This is one of the top warranties in the business and MB has no problems offering it because of their high quality product. Materials - MB Sports uses only the finest materials. It's amazing how many little pieces in these boats that MB takes pride in. A part here or there that others might spend 2-3 bucks on, Mike and the MB Team will use carbon fiber at a cost of 50 times higher. They do this to ensure the highest quality product on the market. But the best part is that you won't see these higher costs passed down to you. MB boats are priced in the same ballpark as the competition! Now, if we get down to how the boats perform on the water.... all we can say is get out in one and you will see for yourself. Getting behind the wheel of the Tomcat the fist time made us feel like we were 16 again. It is a blast to drive and handles great (especially in the chop). But the main things that stood out for us in all the MB boats were the wake, the comfort, how it handles chop, and the dash/cockpit area. Wake - The wake on the Tomcat, B52V, and B52V 23 hulls are incredible right out of the gate. No need to add fat sacs to these boats because they come stock with 2000 lbs or more of ballast. The wakes are very nice and rampy with a great lip at the top for extra pop. Comfort - Sit down in any seat, the bow, passenger seat or in the rear and you will be met with incredible comfort. This is due mainly to the fact that MB reclines the seating to the perfect angle. Go sit in one and you'll see what we mean! Ride - the ride in any of the MB's is smooth. But where they stand out is in rough water. Especially with the Tomcat, which Mike calls the rough water king, these boats handle chop amazingly. The hull design on all the models make it incredibly hard to get water over the bow. We're not saying it's impossible, but both are extremely dry boats. Dash/Cockpit - The new dash on the '08 models is sick. Straight up one of the best dash layouts we've seen for 2008. But the real kicker is that you don't even need the flip up seat to have clear vision when driving an MB. Even before you are on plane you can sit comfortably in the drivers seat and have a full view through the windshield. It is the only inboard we've been in where this has been the case. Check out the MB model lineup below. You should absolutely put MB on your list of boats to check out if you are in the market!
Learn moreHow to measure for a Monster Cargo Bimini Top
Please measure your wakeboard tower following the simple instructions below so you know what size of Cargo Rack Bimini you need. This bimini top fits virtually all wakeboard towers. 1) The frame of the Cargo Rack Bimini mounts between the legs of the tower. Determine which is narrower: the space between the two rear legs on your tower or the space between the two front legs. The narrower of the two will determine the width of the bimini that can be fit between them. 2) Take the following measurement between the legs that have the narrower space. The distances measured need not be exact. a) If you have accessories such as speakers hanging from the top of the tower, measure the inside width of the tower 4” to 6” below those accessories as shown below. How far down you measure impacts the available headroom and clearance for wakeboards or infltables stored on top of the bimini top. b) If you have no hanging accessories, measure the inside width 5” to 10” from the bottom of the top section of the tower: How far down you measure impacts the available headroom and clearance for wakeboards or infltables. Size Options Once you have this width measurement, you can determine the bimini size that you need. If you measured: Bimini Size 53" - 65" SMALL 65" - 77" MEDIUM If your measurement is a little less than 65”, then it may be better to get the medium bimini and mount it a little farther down the legs. However, this will reduce headroom. Although headroom is essential, some headroom can be sacrificed for the additional shade of a wider bimini. The width of the bimini canvas is close to the lower end of each measurement range. The remainder of the width is compensated by telescoping members that do not provide shade coverage for the gap between the tower and bimini.

Learn moreHow to Price Your Boat When Selling On OnlyInboards.com
The most common question we get from sellers at OnlyInboards is “How much should I list my boat for?” This is a very tough question to answer without all the information about the seller and the boat itself. In this article I am going to cover several topic regarding pricing your boat for sale on OnlyInboards or anywhere else: 1. NADA 2. Competition 3. History 4. Year/Make/Model (age and desirability of boat) 5. Engine, Hours, and Options 6. Location & Market Conditions 7. Color 8. Seller Circumstances Let’s dive into each of these! NADA – NadaGuides has been a force in the automotive and marine world valuation business for years. You can use their pricing guides to get the Suggested List Price, Low Retail Price and Average Retail Price. If you want to find the NADA pricing suggestions for your boat follow this link - https://www.jdpower.com/boats We are not huge fans of using this as the ONLY source of pricing information. We tend to think that the pricing fluctuates a little more depending on the time of year, colors, hours, and other options. The NADA is a good starting point but I would not base my entire valuation of the boat on this alone. Keep in mind that dealers generally will use NADA however as a partial basis for your trade in. Competition - We highly recommend you search on OnlyInboards, BoatTrader, Boats.com, Craigslist or any other sites where boats are listed for your exact year/make/model boat. Find out what others are listing them for, but keep in mind the listing date on the ad. If you see 5 of your exact model boat listed for around $50k but you find one that is listed for $70K most likely it has been for sale for quite some time. The problem with only using this method is that boats that are priced aggressively will sell quickly and you may only be reviewing boats that have been listed for a long time (because they are listed too high!). However, by finding all the other boats just like or similar to yours, you will be learning where your competition is priced. If you have a 2010 Nautique 230, you won’t want it to be the highest priced 230 on the market. And, unless you are trying to sell immediately, you may not want it to be the lowest priced either! History - OnlyInboards is very unique in that we offer a guide to show what boats have actually sold for. When a boat is removed from our site, we ask the boat sellers to report their sales price to us. The sales price goes into a searchable database that you can find at the link below: SEARCH SOLD BOAT PRICING A word of caution regarding using the sold boat section of our site. In 2020 – 2021 the market saw an unprecedented rise in used boat prices. The demand due to COVID was incredibly high. So, when searching please be wary of the sale date listed. As of this writing (Fall 2022) we are seeing used prices come down from these record levels. Another thing this sold boat section does not account for is boat location. Year/Make/Model (age and desirability) - Obviously, this is the basis of where you start. What we really mean by this is the desirability of the model year and the model itself. The best way to explain this is through examples. So, let’s take a 2012 Malibu VLX vs a 2013 Malibu VLX. The 2013 is going to be much more desirable because Surf Gate came out on 2013 models, whereas the 2012 models did not have any surf system. Using Malibu as another example, let’s compare a 2006 Malibu VLX vs a 2006 Malibu 21 XTi. The VLX is a v-drive boat and the XTi is a direct drive. Even though these 2 boats are the exact same length and may be similarly equipped (tower, same engine, ballast, etc) the VLX will command a much higher price because it is more desirable. This is due to the rise in popularity of surfing and the decline in popularity of waterskiing (at least as of this writing). Here is another good exercise. Let’s say you plan on listing your boat for $40,000. What you should do is go search for boats in that exact price range and see what you are up against. I’m not saying the same year, make, model, just search all inboards in that price range. If you had $40,000 to spend are there other boats you would consider before yours? Look at the opportunity cost of a buyer purchasing your boat over others. Then you can use that to help you determine a good starting price. Engine, Hours, and Options - Engine options are expensive. An engine upgrade from the base motor can run up to $20,000 or more. So, when comparing your boat to others on the market be cognizant of which engine option is in each boat. Hours are the same way. If you find a boat in our sold boats section, or for sale currently with 200 hours vs 1000 hours there should be a price difference accordingly. We also get asked the question, “how many hours is too many hours?” Well, there is no good answer for this in our opinion. However, we find that most buyers will be looking for boats with hours ranges under 600. Options are also key in determining the pricing of your boat. Depending on the year of your boat options could include: tower, cruise control, racks, surf system, bimini top, single, tandem or triple axle trailer, stereo system, lighting and more. When the original buyer of the boat purchased it from the dealer, these items can really add up. So if your boat is a base model with few options, do not price it comparatively to a loaded one. Location and Market Conditions - We have found that boats on the west coast seem to sell for more money. The best deals are commonly found in the Midwest. However, that is not an end all be all factor. If you live in an area with a high demand for inboard boats, then you can factor that into your pricing decision. You would be surprised to find how far buyers will travel for a good deal. Boats on OnlyInboards have shipped from coast to coast for buyers who find the boat they are looking for. Market conditions are also a HUGE factor. What we mean by that is not only the economy but also the time of year you are listing the boat. There are more buyers looking for boats in spring and summer than there are in the fall. In the fall we generally see a high volume of boats hit the market. Some owners don’t want to carry the note or pay storage fees over the winter while some others may be upgrading. On the other end, buyers in the fall are generally looking more for “end of season deals” and will not want to pay high retail. You will also want to consider the economy. Right now, we are seeing a decline in pricing due to the high volume of boats being listed and rising interest rates. During COVID boats sold at an incredible rate. At one point during 2021 there was a record low number of boats listed for sale. By the time of this writing the number of boats has more than doubled. It’s supply and demand. You MUST take this into account when determining your listing price. Color - Did you custom order your boat with the colors that you love? Great! But those wild color schemes may not be what the average buyer is looking for. Over the years we’ve found that the safest colors are red, blue, black, grey and white. Any other colors, however great they may look, could narrow the number of buyers who may be interested in your boat. Granted this is an extreme example, but which one of these X23’s do you think will sell for more money? This? Or this? Seller Circumstances - This is the factor that only you can determine. Do you need to sell your boat immediately? If so, then you need to price it accordingly. If you are fine waiting for a buyer at your price, then it could take a little longer. Sellers who list their boats for sale at high retail may have to wait a little longer to find the perfect buyer who is close enough, wants that specific model and likes your colors. By taking all of these factors into consideration you should be able to come up with a reasonable asking price for your boat. A few final notes would be that if you are listing in a high demand time then you can always list your boat at high retail to test the market. During peak COVID years we would see boats sell in minutes. Yes, 15-20 minutes on the site and a great deal would be snatched up. Most of those sellers regretted listing for a lower price. We always recommend listing a little higher (if you are not in a hurry) and waiting a few weeks to see if you are getting any action. If you are not you can always lower your price. We hope these tips help you and if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to email or call us!
Learn moreWhat Tower is on my Malibu Boat?
We get asked this question all the time. What type of tower is on my boat? What is the tower tubing diameter? If you have a Malibu boat and are wondering what type of wakeboard tower was installed on it, this article should help you determine the answer. We have compiled this list to help but it could have some missing or incorrect information. We will note any boats that we are unsure about below. Below are the types of wakeboard towers Malibu has put on their boats from the factory. If your boat has a different tower that you do not see here please contact us. Most likely your Malibu has an aftermarket wakeboard tower. Skylon Tower - Tubing Diameter 1 7/8"? We are not 100% sure on the tubing diameter of this Malibu Skylon Swoop Bimini Top. It is possible this is a 1 5/8" tube but we are pretty sure it's 1 7/8". This was the first tower outside of the Titan that was offered as an option for Malibu boats and was only available from 1998 - 2001. Titan I Wakeboard Tower - Tubing Diameter 2.25" This was the first tower Malibu every put on their models. The tower folds down and has 2 1/4" Stainless Steel Tubing. Skylon Tuna Tower - Tubing Diameter 1 7/8" This is another very low volume tower and one you won't find on many boats. Available in the late 90s only. Titan II Wakeboard Tower - Tubing Diameter 2.25" The Titan II Wakeboard Tower is almost identical to the Titan I. The only difference is the rear bar has a slight bend to it making it a little sleeker. This tower also folds down and is still available for sale. Skylon Swoop Tower - Tubing Diameter 1 7/8" The Skylon Swoop Classic tower was the other option you could opt for when purchasing a new Malibu Wakesetter series boat. You could select this or the Titan II tower. The Skylon Swoop Classic was available as a factory option on 2002 - 2004 Malibu Models. Titan III Wakeboard Tower - Tubing Diameter 2.25" The Titan III tower was, in our opinion, one of the best towers of the 2000's, if not the best. It folded easily, was very solid and looked great. It came in stainless steel and was generally polished or black in color from the factory. This tower was offered on some models for quite a few years but the biggest run would have been in 2005-2006. Malibu Illusion Wakeboard Tower - 2.25" Tubing This is the tower that started the trend of the forward arching design! The Gen 1 Malibu Illusion Tower was manufactured by Titan and is VERY rare. You do not see this tower on many boats. Malibu Illusion X Tower If the Malibu Illusion tower is the one that kicked off the trend of forward arching towers, the Illusion X tower is the one that really took the trend to the next level. This tower can be given a lot of credit (in our opinion) of the rise in popularity of Malibu boats in 2005. This cast aluminum tower has custom rack mounts and does not have tubing except for the top cross-member. The tower was produced by Metcraft (out of business) and was offered as an option up until 2008. This tower design also made a brief appearance on Moomba boats as well years later. Malibu Blade Tower Capitalizing off the success of the Illusion X Malibu decided to offer an upgraded version of the tower with 4 built in 6x9 tower speakers. This is another of the VERY rare towers and you will not find many Malibu boats with this tower option on it. It is almost identical to the Illusion X excpet for the built in tower speakers. Malibu Illusion XS Wakeboard Tower In 2008 Malibu released the Illusion XS wakeboard tower ONLY on the 23 LSV and 247 LSV. In 2009 and 2010 this was the most popular tower for all Wakesetter models. The XS tower has different mounts for wakeboard racks and also has a different look. You can see the serrated edge design on the sides and also the lack of curve as the tower angles up. The Ilusion X tower has a curve to it whereas the XS goes straight up at an approximate 45 degree angle. Malibu G3, G3.2 & G3.5 Wakeboard Tower Debuting in 2010, the Malibu G3 tower would be in service in one form or another for the brand for about 10 years. Malibu would make updates over the years with the G3.2 and G3.5 towers but the basic look was the same for quite some time. This tower also has custom rack and bimini mounts and folds easily. Malibu G4 Tower Going back to all cast aluminum, the G4 further expands on the design cues of the G3. With the G4 we start to see more custom color towers and easier folding and use. Malibu G5 tower The Malibu G5 tower was introduced in 2021 and gave boat owners improved clearance by folding lower into the boat than previous versions. Malibu GX Tower The GX tower is the first fully powered tower that automatically raises and lowers at the push of a button. OnlyInboards offers racks, bimini tops, flag holders, ballast and more for most of these boats and towers listed. Contact us if you have any questions about which products are right for your tower. We can be reached at 309-371-0095.

Especially in a nice wakeboard or ski boat doing slalom runs or hitting the wake hard and catching some air. But the truth of the matter is, operating a boat can be dangerous. Accidents happen and as a boat owner, you need to be prepared for the worst case scenario by ensuring you have a comprehensive boat insurance policy. We cannot say this enough, make sure you have water ski boat insurance or wakeboard boat insurance! We found a great article on inboard boat insurance written by Rick Herscowitz for publication on WakeWorld. With the consent of David Williams at WakeWorld, we've republished that article for you on OnlyInboards. Author: Rick Herscowitz, California Independent Agent/Broker Published Courtesy of David Williams and WakeWorld.com I would like to begin by stating that I am an insurance agent/broker licensed only in the state of California. I am not soliciting for business or making any recommendations as to a particular company or product. This article is for informational purposes only. Laws, boating regulations and boat insurance policies differ from state to state and company to company. I recommend contacting a reputable carrier and agent who is familiar with the laws, regulations and carriers of the area in which you reside. They could also provide you with a boat insurance quote as well. It's important to note that water ski boat insurance or wakeboard boat insurance is not a maintenance policy and will not cover wear and tear, deterioration, etc. Mold, wet and dry rot, and vermin are also excluded from most policies. Therefore, floorboards, upholstery, canvas, foam packing, etc. will not be covered in most cases. Many companies will offer mechanical coverage on new boats for an additional premium. When shopping for marine insurance, one needs to understand policy types, coverage limits and limitations. Never, never, never insure your boat on your homeowner's policy. Always buy a freestanding boat policy regardless of cost. Then, if you should you experience a liability or medical loss related to the boat, it won't affect your home. A boat is just a toy, but we all need a home. If the boat premium goes up or the policy is canceled after a loss, so be it. Either pay it or sell the boat. Don't risk the loss of your homeowner's insurance policy. Policy Types Agreed Value or Stated Value With this type of policy, both the insured and the insurance carrier state and agree on the value of the hull and attached hardware. Generally, value is determined by dealer purchase agreement on new boats and by NADA Guide values or dealer purchase agreements for used boats. What is important with this type of policy is to establish and document value prior to loss and pay the necessary premiums. The hull and all attached hardware have a single coverage limit. Should you add towers, bimini tops, high-end stereo, ballast system or other accessories that are permanently affixed, it is important to make certain your hull coverage includes the value of those items. Actual Cash Value With this type of policy, the insurance company pays what the boat is worth at the time of the loss. This means depreciation is a factor. The company has the option of replacing it with "like kind and quality" or paying you the cash equivalent. This means that if they locate a replacement on the Internet, they have the option of buying it for you or offering you an equal dollar amount. Of the two, I prefer an agreed value or stated value policy because, in the event of a loss, there is no arguing about the value of the loss. Exclusions and Deductibles It is important to read the policy carefully to ensure that you have all the coverages for which you are paying. Many companies exclude certain damages such as damage from underwater objects or damage as a result of freezing. Therefore, you want to get an "all risk" policy with the fewest exclusions possible. Deductibles are usually 2% of the hull value, but can be raised to reduce the premium. A good marine policy has the trailer listed separately with its own deductible, which can be as low as $100. Again, confirm that the coverage is sufficient enough to replace any loss with like kind and quality. This is especially true if you have a high-end trailer. Liability Types Liability covers property damage and personal injury to everyone except the named insured and immediate family members. It defends the named insured and pays on behalf only if named insured is found liable. Split Limit Split limit liability coverage follows the type of coverage you usually see with automobile liability insurance. Few insurers fully understand this type of liability. For example, if your liability limits are 100/300/100, that means you have $100,000 in coverage per person, $300,000 in coverage per occurrence and $100,000 in coverage for property damage. So if you have five passengers in the boat, you only have $300,000 in coverage to split between those five passengers. That's only $60,000 each. So the more passengers on board, the lower the coverage per person. Protection and Indemnity P&I is the most common and usually the cheapest type of liability coverage available. P&I coverage provides a single dollar limit for both liability and property damage combined, which the carrier will pay on your behalf. It includes defense costs as well. Therefore, it doesn't matter how many passengers are involved. The coverage limit can apply to one passenger or 10. Towing Liability Towing liability covers anything being pulled or towed behind a moving vessel. For any policy, towing liability is a must have. Be sure to confirm that this coverage is included in your policy. Never assume that it's included in the policy because many companies exclude this coverage or charge more to include it. Emergency Services Emergency services coverage is included on many policies. This covers recovery of sunken vessels or prevention of loss. It also covers towing on the water and/or on the trailer. Make sure this coverage allows for towing service if on the trailer. This is important in the event of an auto accident or axle or bearing problems. Pollution Liability Pollution liability covers clean up of fuel or oil in the event of sudden and accidental discharge. This is becoming more important as many governmental agencies will bill for clean up services after an accident. Umbrellas An umbrella policy provides excess liability coverage. It will pay, on your behalf, for an occurrence for which you are deemed liable after all underlying policy limits are exhausted. Every boat owner should consider one. If you can afford a "toy," then you probably have assets that need protection, such as a home, retirement plans, future inheritances, etc. Umbrella policies are inexpensive, usually around $150-$400 per million dollars of coverage. Medical Coverage Medical coverage pays for injuries to any person injured while on or in the insured boat regardless of fault or cause. The higher the coverage, the better. I would recommend no less than $5,000. Navigation Limits Read the policy carefully and make sure you understand the navigation limits prior to signing it. Some common terms are brown water (less than five miles from shore and inland) and blue water (over five miles from land). Use of these terms is usually within restrictions that are generally for yacht and sport fishing boats (not ski and wakeboard boats) that travel into international (non-U.S.) waters. Most trailer boat navigation limits are defined as "inland lakes and waterways." Watch for state and area limitations as well. These are restrictions on where the vessel is covered. This is important if, for example, you live in California, but take your ski or wakeboard boat to Lake Powell in Arizona/Utah. Lay Up Period The lay up period is the period of time in which you will lay the boat up and not use it. This is usually winter. Many companies offer discounts if you accept a lay up period, but you need to be careful about knowing your lay up period time frame and make sure you don't use the boat during that time. If you do, you may be without coverage. Commercial Use A personal wakeboard or ski boat insurance policy is exactly that, personal use. You cannot use it for business promotion, events, instruction or charter whether or not a fee is charged. If you deduct it from your taxes as a business item, then you generally need a commercial policy. Operators Most policies name the operators of the vessel. However, the vessel is what is insured for liability, regardless of who is operating it. Companies just want driver names and experience for rating purposes. This is where the insurance company uses material information about the operator to determine a premium. Endorsements and Certificate Holders Many people belong to private lakes and water ski clubs and, therefore, are required to name the club, lake authority, sponsor or other entity as an additional insured. If this is something you need or something you foresee needing in the future, ask if it is possible to name an additional insured. Be sure to ask what the additional premium would be. Ownership If you own an interest in a boat, be sure your name is on the title. You cannot insure or collect your share in the event of a loss if you are not a registered owner. You can be sued, however, as an unnamed or silent owner and have no defense coverage under the policy because you're not listed. There are many reputable programs available to boaters, so ask questions and get multiple quotes to compare types, limits and premiums. I hope this article helps clear the muddy insurance waters. I cater Nationwide to the Ski and Wakeboard Boat market. I have finally found a resource to list all of my consignment and broker units!!!!! It is always difficult to list on Boattrader and other similar sites. My customers complain to me about the time and efforts of navigating around those sites. We received more inquiries from this site than any other site we've used in the past. The next time we need sell a ski boat, we'll definitely list it on this site. Mike 12/16/10 Thanks as always!! I sold my boat with you again. I get a new boat every year and always list it on all the sites, but the majority of my leads come from Onlyinboards.com. It would not be possible for me to get a new boat every year if I could not sell my current boat. I get leads from all over the US, Canada, and this last one I even sold to Australia. It was a bit overwhelming getting leads from all over the world, but if you do your due diligence it has worked out perfectly. Anyone that has questions on that, please contact Onlyinboards.com and he can refer you to me. The service has been great. Thanks! Tyler 12/3/10 Boat sold today thanks to your website. Thanks! Nic Johnson I would highly reccommend onlyinboards.com to anyone selling a wakeboard or tournament boat. It generated many many inquires and seems to be the best site for selling these types of boats. You only get people who are looking for wakeboard or tournament style boats and you don't have to go through the process of educating them on why your boat is what it is. Andy Jorgensen Highlands Ranch, CO Yes...you were the only place that I listed it with. It's not easy to find a buyer for a closed bow skiing boat, even if it's in great condition. OnlyIboards.com found me that person! Thanks for your help. Mike I listed my boat for sale on your site and on Boat Trader (ugh) and your site was easily much better and more user friendly, plus a hell of a lot cheaper. What a fantasic service for wakeboarders/skiers to sell their boats. I listed my 1999 Moomba Outback and within hours had some prospective buyers. Once all was said and done, the boat SOLD in less then 2 weeks and there were over 30 inquiries through OnlyInboards (versus NONE through some other online classified services). I fully attribute the quick sale to this site, the visibility it gets in the online wakeboarding community, and the technology powering the site. Thanks again OnlyInboards.com! Wade (DCWake.com Site Administrator) Thanks for a great site, I got TONS of leads from this site and none from any other sites, including BoatTrader. I will recommend your site highly to anyone looking for or selling an inboard. Regards, Pete This is an excellent site. I had my boat on Craigslist and Planet Nautique and didn't get any response. I have had several hits from OnlyInboards and just sold the boat from one of the leads. I would highly recommend OnlyInboards.com to sell your boat. Michael I would just like to say thanks for the ad. I listed my boat back in Feb. and sold it about a month or so ago from a lead from your site. Again thanks and I think you have a great site. Billy GREAT SITE!! JUST GOT A BOAT FROM ONE OF YOUR SELLERS Denny Your site has really taken off!! Congrats, before you know it I think it will be the biggest ski boat and wakeboard boat site out there if it’s not already. I have heard lots of people talking about your site in the last few weeks a lot, from all over the country. I have gotten leads from CA, MT, MI, FL, OK, OH, and NC on my boat. I think that the one from MT may pan out. I should find out today for sure. Thanks again! Shawn Murphy Update: THIS BOAT IS SOLD AND IT SOLD THROUGH WWW.ONLYINBOARDS.COM . MY BOAT RECEIVED 568 HITS FROM ONLYINBOARDS AND A LOT OF LEADS. GREAT SITE TO WORK WITH!!!! I WOULD RECOMMEND ALL TO USE IF SELLING. Maybe its the warm weather, but I've gotten 5 hot prospects for my boat in the past 5 days. they are just about fighting over it. Prior to OnlyInboards I was with Boattraderonline for about 6 months, with maybe only one buyer interested enough to water test the boat. Hands down I recommend OnlyInboards. i don't know how or why, but there was a big difference in the quality of inquires, number of inquires and the service you provided. this is a no brainer. thanks again. Rick Harpenau Man, I really love your website. I put my Malibu VLX up on your site as a featured listing and almost immediately, got an email from a guy from up in Oregon who saw the ad. He flew down to my house in Sacramento to see the boat and bought it. Isn't the internet great? Thanks again, Tom Conway I wanted to send you a quick note thanking you again for your awesome website! After searching on it daily for about three weeks I found the exact boat I was looking for and made the purchase. Your site made it extremely easy to search through a huge inventory of boats for sale from a wide variety of sources all over the country. It was very convenient to only have to go to one site each day for all the updated listings. All of the additional information on your site in the form of articles and helpful links helped me make an informed purchasing decision and I'll have all my equipment ready to go when my boat arrives. Thanks again, I'll recommend your site to all my friends. Sincerely, Jeffrey Poff OnlyInboards.com is a great resource for finding the wakeboard boat I am looking for. I only have to go to one site and I have access to advertisements from multiple other sites such as eBay, Craigslist, Boattrader, etc. Kenny I accidentally found OnlyInboards.com by search engine, and I have to tell you that this is the best, most comprehensive site I have found. Though I have seen many of the ads on other sites, I have to travel to all sites in order to find the few boats that fall into the direct drive category. Thanks for putting this site together. I've already passed on the word to a few friends. J.J. Pitman Little Rock, AR The site provide a number of strong leads and I have already recommended it to other friends. Thanks.... Jim Even though this is my site, I might as well tell my story here. I had my 92 Sport Nautique listed on Boattrader for 4 months and in 3 weeks I received more calls from this site than the entire time I had it on Boattrader and the boat sold for my asking price. Ian Brown LeClaire, IA This site give's you everything out there in one convient location instead of searching all over the web. I use this site everyday in search of what I'm looking for. Thanks for the convience. Jaysen Great site! This has to be the most user friendly boat website that I have ever been on. It is nice to be able to browse through just tournament boats instead of sailboats and fishing boats. I have my boat listed on this site and in less than a month I've had over 200 hits for my listing. Scott Really like this site, no need wading through all the other type boats when you know what you want! Richie Great site. Best out there so far. Rob This is an excellent site/idea....... I had my boat on boattraderonline and didnt get any response. I have had several hits from onlyinboards.com though....Hopefully it sells. Jim Great site. Really makes searching for a wake specific boat easier. Taylor Glad to have found it ! Was looking in the Boattrader. Lot more to go through and they don't have an inboard section. Thanks . Steve Dowell Jackson MS. The best boat site on the net. I look at it every day to see what's new Adam OnlyInboards.com is a great resource for finding the wakeboard boat I am looking for. I only have to go to one site and I have access to advertisements from multiple other sites such as eBay, Craigslist, Boattrader, etc. Kenny It is great to be able to look at a website with nothing but inboards. It makes finding a boat simple! Matt For Towers & Accessory Sales Hey, I just want to say thank you for everything. I received my rack today.
